Default Timing help?

Hello all, im new so dont rag on me tooooo hard please lol.

I've just bought a 1974 chevy k5 blazer, 350 stroked to a 383, RV cam, flathead pistons, and a Carter AFB performance series 600 CFM carburetor.

I THINK the timing is off because it has ALOT of trouble starting up...ive never adjusted timing on this old of a truck, nor on a chevy at all(have been a ford guy the better part of my life), is there a write-up or how to on this somewhere?

Thanks

Default RE: Timing help?

*Moving to Full Size Tech*

Your timing should be set to 8* Advanced at around 500RPM with hte vacuum advance hose disconnected from the distributor and plugged as to not create a vacuum leak. Atleast that is what I think it is stock. You will need to check this with an inductive timing light with the clamp on the #1 cylinder.

You might want to check with the cam manufacturer for their specification.

if you added a bunch of non stock parts and can't time it,assuming everything is working, you can have someone sit in it with car in drive and foot on brake, then you turn idle as low as it will go without shutting off and time it by ear, left til almost dies then right same thing and find the center where it seems to run the fastest, that should be your optimum time
