timing question
I searched and found a couple good posts about how to set your timing, but none answered my question. All of them assumed your timing chain was good, or you removed the dizzy. I am replacing my timing chain. I never took the dizzy out, so that is still good. My question is, my crank gear has no mark on it, so do I line it up TDC and put the mark on the cam gear straight down? Or put the timing mark on the balancer straight up? Or put the crankshaft key straight up?

Timing chain slipped. It is a 2002. Good thing this isn't an interference engine. I was going 70 mph when the engine just died, no sputtering, just died. The new timing gears had marks on them. I was just trying to line it all up before taking the crank gear off. i"m sure Chevy could come up with a better design for the timing chain cover. They've only had since 1955 to fix that stupid cover that goes under the oil pan.
