Default Tranny problem

Hello all I have a 98 Blazer zr2, Problem is will not shift to second until truck is at 20mph and have to let out of gas to get it to shift. There are no service engine soon lights on. cant tell it it is getting 2nd or if it is just skipping and hitting 3rd. But 20mph and letting off gas is the magic combo to get it to shift. any ideas or suggestions

Could be any number of things. Sticking 1-2 shift solenoid or spool valve would be the first place to check. If it only happens when at operating temp, there is a GM TSB for the spacer plate above the valve body being damaged from the steel check ***** banging on it. How often do you change the trans fluid and filter? If it's more than ~36K miles, that could be a contributing factor.

Ok well I pretty well confirmed that it is just skipping 2nd all togather wont go to 2 manually. Operating temp hot or cold makes no difference. As for tranny fluid it smells burnt and is brownish in color. Wife drove the truck long distance with low fluid when problem occured. Would a B&G treatment and tranny flush possibly fix this ?
