I was wondering if the transmission from a 1994 s10 4.3 4x4, would work in a 1990 s10 4.3 4x4?? I have the manual shifter for the 4x4, does the '94 have the push button 4x4?? And if it does...will it work with my manual shifter. By the way, both trannys are automatic...any info would be very helpful!!!

probably not without a lot of work. The 94 more'n likely has the 4L60E, and requires the computer to shift the gears. I am not sure about the 4x4 shifting, but, if one is electronic, and yours is not, it will also require some fabrication of the brackets. I think....

Only way your going to get a '94 tranny to work in your '90 truck is if you install a puter for the tranny. Teh '94 is electronically contorlled, in other words the puter tells it when to shift.
The '90 shifts via the tv cable. The tv cable is attched to your trottle linkage on the engine. There is no easy way to convert the two.
Find another pre-'93 tranny, you want a 700R4 or 4L60, not the 4L60E. Should be easy to find a 700R4/4L60, all GM 4x4 with auto tranny and 1/2ton or lighter had one. Donors include fullsize trucks/SUV's, and the S-series trucks. You could also use a 2wdr unit, howver you have to swap out the poutput shaft, not hard, but it does require taking hte tranny completely apart to do it.
Your best option is to rebuild your current tranny, however that isn't always the most practicale. Call your local salvage yards, they will hook you up.
When you find one post up, there are some things you need to do to ensure the used tranny will survive the swap.
