Default tranny swap?

Looks like im going to be searching for a transmission. On a 95 4dr 4wd "w" vin can i use an older 4l60, or 700r4 instead of a 4l60e?

Also if i were to get a long shaft (2wd) tranny and dump the trans case does anyone know if a 2wd s10 drive shaft will work?

Not sure about the '93 & '94 compatibility. Only difference is the pulse width modulated torque converter clutch control. It would probably work but I'm not sure.

700R4 most likely not since the ECM will want to see signals from the switch in the valve body. Not to mention the speed sensor may not put out correct pulse numbers for speedometer.

2wd instead of 4wd would work except you're going to have to change the driveshaft for proper length.

Think it would be possible to fool the ecm? would it just cause a ses light or not run? I understand i can use the throttle linkage of a 92-94 to attach the kickdown cable, and i could wire TCC switch/relay myself.

I would like to get a 700r4 to work as I am currently building a small block 400 for this truck, and don't want to fool with any electronics. My only options until the engine is complete is my motorcycle or hitching a ride cus the wife don't like giving up her blazer. So a temporary fix at this point would be great.

If you are running a different engine, you would either be changing out the ECM anyway or running carb. In that case the 700R4 would be the only way to go unless you are going to adapt and tune an EFI system. I believe the 700R4 ended in '92 and was in it's transformation process in '93 & '94.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes when the 400 is complete I will definately be running a 2wd 700r4. But for the time being I would like to make it work with my 4.3 to get it driving and be one step closer for the engine swap.

I don't want to tell you what to do, but you'll spend a lot more time trying to get that to work than to wait and spend the :30 it will take to install the transmission during the swap.
It just seems like you're trying to save time by getting that in already, but you are going to fight it more when something goes wrong electronicly vs. during the swap when your main issue is just adding a little box that uses the VSS signal to lock the converter.

I guess you're right, I just want to get the thing running, but it's best to wait and avoid the headaches.

Thanks again.
