Hey guys im looking for some help i have a 2000 blazer 4x4 stock. I have 103,000 miles on it and it definitely needs a transmission rebuild/replacement. I want to know from your specific experience with your blazer of the same model is it worth it? or should i get another car or truck. i would like your honest opinion trying to leave your biases for this model truck aside as much as possible. I would NOT be doing the replacement a mechanic would be doing that. I have a lot of mechanical experience but im not messing with something this in depth.

What i have done to the truck by myself is all my own work and within the last 20,000 miles:

All ball joints
both front wheel bearings
Exhaust from the cat pipe back (flow master)
New radiator
Front Shocks
thermostat
fuel pump
cold air intake
new rotors
U joints
Spark plugs (about 200 miles ago)
(obviously oil changes regularly)


I would also like to know what kind of longevity this truck has as far as the engine/trans goes and how many miles you have on your blazers. (4.3L Vortec 4x4)

 

i have a 98 blazer iv got 190000 on my motor and i did i have a rebuilt trans in it intill my intake gaskit blew and overheated my trans so no im on the 3rd trans. the 4.3 is a strong motor that is well built and will run a very long time. mine still runs like it was new trans for our trucks are easy to find and preaty cheap for what they are. remeber trans cost alot anyway but ours are cheaper then most you could get a trans from a pick and pull around were im from for about 3-400$ and normaly they last bc over all they are good trans. how ever if you really like your blazer and intend to keep it for a long time you should get this 4L60E Mega Monster Transmission Complete Rebuild Kit: 1998-02
i am in the middle of building a trans for my blazer useing this kit and it is of very well put togther and is a good kit. (the only reason i put another junk yard trans in my truck is bc this trans is not done yet and i still need to get to work)
