Default Trans shift cable

Why did gm make the shift cable on my console shifted 97 blazer 10 freaking feet long??? I had to disassemble half the interior to change it!

10 feet long???? Dang. How was it routed?

Yes Christine 10 feet long lol. The cable for our trucks with the column shifter is 8 feet long. On the floor shift blazer it comes forward off the shifter up under the hvac ducting loops back under the throttle pedal back to just under the drivers seat, through the floor, back to almost the end of the transfer case and loops back to the transmission.

Makes perfect sense, since the shifter is about a foot from the connection on the transmission.

Seems like they could have designed it to exit the shifter housing at the rear and just make a small turn. But where's the fun in that, lol.
