Trans temp gauge
#1
Hey everyone. Is there a way of installing a trans temperature gauge without dropping the pan? Is there one that is an inline setup that attaches to a transmission line? I have a B&M transmission cooler that is installed on the passenger side grille with the fittings pointed down (please see the album in my garage for a photo). The hoses are run from the cut trans return line near the oil filter to the cooler and from the cooler to the radiator trans return port.

There is a test port above the shifter linkage on the drivers sdie of the tranny, its a 1/4" plug. Remove that and put in your temp sensor. Most kits will identify this location for the sensor.

Im getting ready to do this to, does the plug screw right into the test port or how does it attach? Thanks.

The plug that currently is installed in your test port is threaded.

It appears the pressure port is a fairly easy place and is located shortly after pump output. My only concern is how far down the case the port is after the pump. I can't remember exactly where it's located in relationship to pump depth in the case. I only raise the question because the fluid has no flow in this port so if you are looking for fluid temp that is as accurate as possible, you may want to consider something else (depending on the probe distance from the pump). I would only raise that concern in a racing or heavy-duty towing application where temperatures could skyrocket before the gauge reflects the change.
