Transmission from a '01 swapped into '96: Will it work?
I have the opportunity to buy a transmission from a '01 Blazer to replace the now blown unit in my '96 Jimmy. Will it work if the '01 has the 4L60e? What about if it has the 4L65e?
Thanks!
EDIT: Will a swap from a '97 Blazer be more straightforward? What year did the bell housing become removable? I believe that on my '96 the bell housing is not removable. Can I use the trans from a blazer or Jimmy that came equipped with a removable bell housing?
I appreciate your responses!
Thanks!

You should be able to use the '01 trans in your '96. The transmission will have the removable bell housing, but should bolt up just the same. You may have to make a dust shield for the front.
A '97 swap would be a direct replacement, but the '01 trans has improvements over the '96 & '97 models.
