Default Transmission interchangeability

My 95 Blazer 4WD 4.3 liter transmission shot craps. I purchased a used 96 Blazer transmission. After pulling out the 95 and seeing the 96 side by side they look signifigantly different. Both say 4L60E on the side but the 95 says 5TAD on the tag on top and the 96 says 6TAD. The 96 has full integrated bell housing as the 95 has a 4 bolt torque converter cover. Will this 96 fit in the 95 and if so will the 4 struts fit the 96 that came out of the 95. Please help as I don't want to go to all the work trying to install if it isn't going to work. Electrical connecters have the same number of pins. I can't find anywhere as to the difference between 5TAD and 6TAD.

The strut rods will not work with the full bell housing. You will want to make sure that the front of the pump (behind the torque converter) states PWM on the '95 trans. If it does, then you should be good to go.

Thanks swartlkk for the quick reply! I will look behind the torque converter on the dead 95 trans I took out for the PWM. I guess it doesn't make any difference on the 96 I am putting back in the 95. Bummer on the struts as I bought the trans 200 miles north of here. Maybe can pick them up in a junk yard. Thanks again for your help.

HEY LISTEN ON A 95 GMC JIMMY. eVERY THING LOOKS THE SAME BUT . HERES THE BIG DEIFFERNCE NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU i LEARNED THE HARD WAY . A 95 MUST HAVE A 95 5TAD IF ITS 4X4 GO BACK IN IT THE NUMBER ON THE CASE MUST BE 95AT. EVERYTHING LOOKS THE DSAME THE BOLT UP ALL OF IT BUT THE COMPUTER IS NOT SET TO RUN ANY OTHER TRANSMISSION OPTHER THAN THIS 95. LEARN THIS UP FRONT IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME ASK ANYONE THAT CAN LOOK UP INTERCHANGE PARTS ASK A TRANSMISSION GUY THATS TRUST WORTHY IN YOUR HOME TOWN. OR A jUNK YARD SOMEONE THAT YOU KNOW .
