I had just recently bought a ‘99 ZR2 Blazer is great shape, only downside is that it has 212,000 miles on it. The previous owner said the trans that was in it was slipping so he bought a new (used) one with 80,000 miles on it from a wrecked Blazer. He had a mechanic install the new trans and when he was finished with the job he told the owner that “It only shifts into 1st and Reverse” me being the mechanically inclined one I figured I’d buy it anyway because it seemed like a simple fix with the shift cable. I got it home and started messing about and noticed the cable didn’t extend long enough to reach the park gear, it would rarely go into Reverse but I could get it to go into Neutral and Drive fairly well back and forth. I bought and new shift cable and the mechanism that hooks up to the column and just got them both installed today and still having the same issue. The trans goes into all the gears and works properly but I’m running into that issue where the cable doesn’t seem to extend long enough to reach the Park gear reliably. Do the ZR2 Blazers have different neutral switches that’s causing the shift lever to sit further than the cable? Hopefully someone knows, I don’t want to take a loss on this thing!
