Default Transmission pan filter seal

Ok, so im replacing a leaky transmission pan gasket, i've actually already replaced it, but i messed up somewhere so it still leaks. I have an idea where i messed up so im removing the pan again to fix my goof. But the first time around i didnt change the transmission filter seal cuz i was in a hurry and didnt really know how. This time around i would like to change the seal, but my problem is that i dont know how to get the thing out. The Haynes manual didnt describe it too well, but from what i hear you have take a screwdriver to the outer lip and pound it loose with a hammer...which didnt sound too safe to me, especially when they tell you to be careful to not gouge the housing. I also saw online people talking about a seal puller that is specially designed for this. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to go about this? Or even know where i could find that seal puller? Thanks in advance

First off I guess your working on a 4L60E. The filter will pull out with a little effort a some twisting. I never replace the o-ring unless I have reason to believe it is damaged. If the filter fits nice a snug it most likely is OK.
As for the pan leak I have posted this before but most pan leaks are because of overtightened pan bolts. What they do is bend the pan up around the holes so take a ball pene & flatten the holes or dent them out some. When you tighten the pan the bolts will pull the hoses flat.

Like he said. If the filter goes in with a snug fit, leave it alone. If you arent careful you can beat a gouge and cause fluid to leak between the seal. Ive never had a change one out.
