alright, so ive had my transmission diagnosed and i guess my valve body is needing replaced, and im doing a filter, plug, fluid change too obviously. but im having other issues now too. when its really cold, first start, i try backing out of my parking space and a few times lately(seemingly more frequent) it feels like reverse gear is binding or slipping or something. it feels like the engine has to work really hard and it doesnt want to reverse and a click here and there. so after researching and realizing there are a million and one problems with this transmission im looking at all options. im part of the 99% who is not rich and cant afford to **** away money. so replacing my valve body is $450 alone. i found a guy selling rebuild transmissions on craigslist, he has 2 or 3 different ones, for 400$. assuming purchasing a rebuilt transmission somewhere was the avenue i want to go down, how do i know what model years work with my vehicle? and that if i buy one it will work?. i have a 1999 gmc jimmy 4x4 with the 4l60e which im sure is in all of the autos of that year range. but what about a 1995?

I would go with the $400 Craigslist rebuild if you are really short on money. I've done 3 rebuilds of these transmissions with only a picture book. I would make sure you have some sort of warranty. It doesn't need to be much. The transmission will either work or it wont. Make sure you go through every gear and drive it hard(floored). Check that every gear upshifts and downshifts as you would expect it to. Make sure each shift is firm(2nd to 3rd is slow, but it should not feel like it's slipping).
There is not a lot that can go wrong as long as he has the correct tools for the job. Doing it without them greatly increases the chance of something not working correctly which should be cought during the test drive after the install.
That's my opinion on the matter. However I would have your transmission rebuilt. You never know what kind of problems the others started out with. At least you know yours works except for Reverse.
