Default transmission wont shift I think a ground issue

hey guys thanks for looking

I have a 1993 GMC S-15. Here are the symptoms

No power to the instrument cluster
Turn the lights on and the alarm beeps as if you took the key out and left the lights on
Truck stuck in 3rd

I think its a ground issue but where do I find the ground? Is there a place where they tranny and instrument cluster ground together?

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

The PCM ground is most times on the rear of the left cylinder head. May want to look at the fuse panel also.
good luck.

thanks man
i just dont know what would cause the cluster to go dead and the lights to alarm when i put them on. Im thinking it has to be a ground or a short. Im not positive but a bad **** solenoid shouldn't effect the lights or the other gauges on the cluster.

what are your thoughts ?

lol! After 40 years of this stuff you think you’ve seen it all but have learned never to rule out anything. You could unplug the transmission at the case connector and then try the light switch to rule out the electrics in the transmission being involved.
