Default what year is this vortec from?

I have a guy trying to sell me a vortec motor but it looks old, like from 1993-94.
How can i tell what year exactly its from or if it will work with my setup. Im trying to get away with less change over as possible id like to drop in and bolt if possible.

I have a 1996 jimmy awd slt.
here is the motor

Yeah that's the 93-95 4.3 CPI motor.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're not going to want to fuss with it.

It will be a somewhere close to a '94-ish motor given that it has an electronic EGR valve, but given the fact that it appears to have a metal timing cover, I'm guessing that it doesn't have provisions for the CKP sensor required for your ignition system among other issues as well.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know there were any differences on the same style motor. My bad.

'95s could have the old style vertical tower distributor cap which would not require a CKP sensor as well as the new EDI ignition system (horizontal terminal distributor cap) that does. In that case, the short block could be used as the CKP sensor would be present. The cam wouldn't be quite right for the SCFI upper end, but it would work. Heads on up would have to be swapped over.

so would it be worth the swap? or should i just look for a newer motor? they wanted 425 for that motor. im finding newer motors for around 525 with around 115,000 on them. if i end up getting that newer motor what gaskets should i replace before i put it back in. im trying to avoid any leaks prior to putting the motor back in lol
