Default Why does it seem to run better after an oil change

Possible stupid question, but. Did go ahead and change the oil and filter today. 5 quarts Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30 and brand new filter, either an ACDelco or a Supertech. It was a blue can I forget which one it was . Well ST3980.. okay Supertech.

My question is simple.. why does it appear to idle more smoothly and overall seem to "run better," even if the old oil was "that bad" why does it seem to have slightly more power etc etc?

This is not the first time an oil change was done on a GM car and afterwards I was like !!!! Noticeable difference. With regular new 10W-30.. ?

Fresh oil mean theres almost 0 obstruction to the moving parts inside the engine... that's why they say to grease everything aswell during the oil change...

or atleast that's what I think lol

Keep in mind you didn't just change the oil inside the engine, but you also change out the air. Fresh air allow the oil to flow more smoothly throughout the engine which in turn makes the engine run smoother!

Okay, I joke. It is probably you just know that you have fresh oil in there that makes you feel the engine is happy...you know, happy engines run smoother. Put new spark plugs, cap, rotor and wires will make a difference. Changing oil, not so much. Unless you had sludge oozing out of the drain hole on the pan.

I remember the grease gun on our old 82 Olds DELTA 88. (Royale Brougham)

I'm really impressed. It pulled HARD enough to make a Porsche so a double take when he passed me at 100MPH then dropped down to 80. So I got it up to 95 and I was right on his tail.. a LOT of power 75-95MPH WOW strong pull!!!

Silly Porsches lol

^^AJ true i didn't see the sludge that looked like spoiled curled milk (eeeewww) but i am wondering if it was somewhere else in the engine? I just realized.. the oil gets everything, including the distributor

True, very likely placebo but.. I wonder if my old oil really was just watery and done for.

I agree. I recently replaced the Dino with synthetic. Now I have higher oil pressure and I think it idles better.
