Default Will this timing chain fit?

Hello everyone. On my truck, the timing chain cover was leaking, so I decided that I might as well have the timing chain replaced too. I found out at my local dealer that there was a bulletin in which GM had developed a new timing chain tensioner. I bought the tensioner
(GM #89017257) along with the required timing chain kit (GM #12458911). My mechanic called me and said that the timing chain that I bought is different from the original one, and that it might not fit because it looks smaller.

Does anyone know if this is true that it will not fit, or if there a specific way that it needs to be installed? Because according to the bulletin, it should fit.

The newer timing chains are double rollers. I don't have the bulletin in front of me, but I would think you would need new gears as well.

Thanks for your reply. And the timing chain kit that I bought already comes with both gears and the timing chain. And it is called a "roller" type chain just like you mentioned. So it should fit right?
