I purchased an 82 K5 Blazer with a 5.7 and a turbo 350 tranny about two months ago. drove it 3 hrs home and it ran like a top. been drove 15 miles a d ay every since with no issues. Today I pulled into a parking spot and when i put the vehicle in park it made a whinning hissing noise and i lost park and all gears. Needless to say this has me stumped and is above my pay grade. Any insight as to what the issue could be would be greatly appreciated.

 

Have you looked underneath it? Anything hanging down? Like a driveshaft? Losing the gears is one thing but losing park is different. Park is mostly a sprag that a pin locks into. You might just need a couple of new universal joints.

 

that was my initial thought was the driveshaft but they are intact. i lost all gears and park. And right up until it went into park there was no strange sounds or any "warning signs" that something was wrong. as soon as it went into park is when it went bad

 

Wow! Have you tried messing around with the 4x4 shifter to see if that might change something?
