Won’t shift out of first and mph gage don’t work

I have a 99 Chevy blazer LT with a 4.3vortec and if I manually put it in first then shift up to 3rd but when I put in drive it shifts in back into 1st aw well the mph gage doesn’t work in not sure if it’s related or not but please help

Does it have a check engine light on? If so you need to have it scanned for trouble codes.

Yes the light is on and throughing a code for the speed sensor

That would be a place to start by inspecting the wiring harness and connector. Also take a look at the fuses. Then try replacing the sensor. Good luck!

where at in the harness do i need to look? i took the plug off an tested for continuity and it has it but haven't checked the other end of the harness and i searched for a speed sensor fuse but couldn't find one. i replaced the sensor still hasn't changed and still throws the code.

Heyyyy so my 2000 jimmy is doing something very similar, by chance is you abs and parking brake light on? Mine did this and the first time once the speedometer started working and lights shut off it shift just fine. Now it just doesn't work. Just curious, did you ever fix your problem? I can't find what it is.
