1982 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic Speedo Querry
I'm looking at purchasing a 1982 GMC Sierra Classic 4x4 LH Drive. I assume the speedo should be in mph, however the current owner informs me that it is in fact in km/h. could somebody please clarify what the original speedo for this vehicle was calibrated in? Thanks

Could have been either stock. Someone could have swapped dashes as well. So long as the speedometer reads correct, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks for your quick reply. I haven't been able to establish if the speedo reading is correct yet- there could be some discrepancy in speedo readings. Should the speedo go up to 100000 or only 99000 and if the vehicle has the original owners manual would that show any pictures that would remove any doubt regarding these querries?
Is this the right forum for this vehicle or is only for 1983 onwards?

I thought I already moved this, but evidently not.

Also, your cluster will be scaled to display which ever numbers are large in the speedometer. If the MPH numbers are large, the odometer will read in miles, not km. If the larger numbers are in km/h, then the odometer will be in km. It is far more common to have it be MPH and that is likely what you have.

The maximum speeds would be different too. Without running out to my truck I think the max speed says 120 mph. So the max speed on a metric speedo should be around 190 to 200 kph.

I still need to know if the maximum distance travelled before the speedo goes round the clock is 99000 or 999000?

99999.9
Guess the bow-tie guys didn't have faith in their trucks or were too cheap to add an extra digit to reach a million.

Many vehicles in that era had only 5 figures for the odometer. Nothing to do with faith or longevity.
