203 to 205 swap
hey, almost got 205 finished! had to get a longer drive line! but now the u joints are too small for output shaft fm t case! will the output shaft from 203 fit in 205? thanks! james

You must mean the yoke. It depends on if the 205 has tha same spilned output as the 203. Youll just have to pull it off and try. If that doesnt work youll have to either get a different yoke put on your drive shaft or get a combination U-Joint

The 205 has a slip yoke in stock form while the 203 has a fixed rear output.
If your u-joints are different sizes at the rear axle, you can get conversion joints.
BTW, try to keep your threads together. Merging with your previous thread.

Ive got 4 205's in the parts trailer , all out of k10/20s and are all fixed rear output
As for Big84 tring to go from a 208 to a 205 , GM made 3 input shafts for the 205, you just need to find one with a 32 spline female input shaft , not the 10 or 27 spline male input .

All of the 205's I have found have been slip yoke rear outputs. They have been out of K10's and K5 Blazers behind TH350s & SM465's. They were mainly later models.
The consensus on many other forums is that a large number of NP205's are slip yoke rear outputs. I know there are fixed rear yoke NP205's out there, but my experience is shared by many. Sounds like you have gotten quite lucky.

Must have somthing to do with what part of the country you live in. I cant count how many 205s Ive seen and still havent ever pysically laid eyes on a SY 205. I know for a fact all the 10 spline units are fixed. Anyway , it doesnt really matter , you can make a SY 205 in to a fixed rear pretty easily.

Hopefully I'll find a fixed rear 205 in the parts '74 Jimmy I'm picking up. It's behind a L6/SM465 though so I know I'll have to be swapping the input shaft before I can make the doubler I want.
Wish there were more NP205's around me. So many trucks up here were NP203's.

203 to 205
so when your talking about slip yoke output? fixed rear output? slip yoke, does that one just pull out of transfer case? and fixed rear yoke? it is bolted in to t case?! all the u joints fit in all places, except to rear of t case! so as of now i'm looking for a combination u joint! napa here in town said they could get one, i need to measure! to see what size i need! wonder if there is a standard size in the 205? what will the shift pattern be again? 4hi? 4lo? 2hi? what kind of oil is used in 205's? 90w tranny fluid? thx
