Default 91 k1500 very tight throttle cable

hi i just recently bought a 91 k1500 blazer with the tbi 350. It runs awesome but is hard to drive in stop and go trafficbecause of what i assume to be the throttle cable. From a stop it takes an excessive amount of pressure to press the accelerator pedal at all. once I am moving and have the pedal even slightly pressed it moves a little easier but when i let off it is again very hard to move, even worse at a stop. So every time I take off I end up lurching forward or,usually, just spinning my tires which i can only assume is quite hard on my torque converter, differential, and engine. not to menton burn though more gas than my already thirsty engine already consumes. Any one know how i could loosen my throttle cable? or might the problem be in my throttle body itself? Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Default RE: 91 k1500 very tight throttle cable

I would start by removing the throttle body and feeling the movement without any other cables attached. With the throttle body off, use some carb cleaner to clean the bores and blades. Buildup could be the entire reason for your problem.

Default Sticking Throttle Cable

I went thru this same problem with a '90 Blazer (288,000 miles). I got it with 198,000 miles on it. Did the remove the cable, clean it out with spray cleaner, lubed it with 3 different types of spray lube (not WD40) and it did help for a very short time. Checked the throttle body and almost replaced it due to a worn shaft. Ended up replacing the cable (available at local Chevy dealer - about $40) and that took care of it. It is an easy replacement and not worth the time to clean. You won't believe the difference and how much trouble it has been giving you until you do replace it.
