My radio will not tune anymore. Aerial is plugged in. Any ideas? Time to replace?
What do I replace with. I want it to look stock

If you want it to look stock then buy a stock stereo and replace your broken head unit.

 

It's a 92. Does not have standard radio.
Has the factory radio. The head works fine. I think the receiver is bad. Which is a separate unit mounted behind the ashtray.

Was looking to possibly upgrade but I do not want to mount the unit where the unused cassette player is currently located.

Was looking to see if anyone has had similar problem and how they solved it

 

I had the same problem in mine but I just replaced the radio completely and did what you don't want to do. I would suggest looking on ebay for the receiver unit and if not there then maybe a junk yard or try to find a reconditioned one from a dealer.

 

2 things you can try. check the antenna itself inside the fender. we had a 92 pick up truck at work where the antenna wire completely rotted off the bottom side of the antenna.

also my daily driver is a 1990 c1500 which has that goofy equalizer thing above the ashtray and my radio quit receiving too. they sell a adapter where you can put a aftermarket radio in place of that equalizer. whats funny is right when i unplugged the equalizer/tapedeck thing my radio immediately started working, no idea how. but i went ahead and replaced it anyways since i already bought the adapter.

 

Thanks for the input. I got a receiver from a junkyard and that restored the radio function. Now I have lots of ignition noise....any ideas for that problem?

 

I'm not real good with electrics but it sounds like either a bad ground somewhere or a power wire running too close to an output wire picking up the interference. Is it a whine that occurs when running and keeping good time with the rpms or just static noises? If its static related it could be a bad speaker or speaker connection too. Like I said, I'm not real good with this stuff and its hard to try and figure it out without hearing it. I'm sure someone will come along with better advice and some experience. Good luck!
