axels gmc/dana
hey my 78 has original gm axels on it and 35 in tires 6bolts i was wondering what exactly the differance is between the dana axels because when i look at othe blazers everyone is alwasy saying they got em like there better or somethin ..im just useing my truck to go muddin should i loook into buying bigger axels or are mine fine for just muddin ...im just tryin to get the basics down on this kinda stuff thanks
There are aspects of the Dana 44 that are stronger than the GM Corp 10-bolt same as there are aspects of the Corp 10-bolt that are stronger than the Dana 44. It all depends on what version of each you are talking about.
There is more aftermarket support for the Dana 44 than the GM Corp 10-bolt which takes care of a lot of its short comings (like necked down axles).
Overall, 35's is about the limit for casual offroading. 33's if you are really getting into it. Further than that and you need to look at putting 1-ton running gear under the truck. Dana-60 & GM Corp 14-bolt.

You sure you don't have a dana 44 front? I know 77s had them. Anyways I always prefered the 10 bolt cause they are way more pleantiful in junkyards. Easier to find parts for when you break something. Most people usually just give them to me
