I guess the tool I've used the last half dozen times I've pulled my TREs doesn't work. And apparently it doesn't work for this guy either:

And I guess that harbor freight has one of their tools mis-labled:
Harbor freight TRE puller
So does Sears:
Sears' TRE puller
As does 4 Wheel parts:
4Wheel parts' TRE puller
I'm not saying that whacking the steering arm doesn't work, sometimes it doesn't. Personally, I don't like to beat on my truck, she gets abused enough as it is. I'd rather use a tool that was meant for the job and torque all the nuts and bolts to the correct values.

Stand by....
I was WRONG!
...
...
If it works, use it.
I used to have one. It didnt.

Guess that tit in the end of the shaft threw me. Heck, I'm in favor of pickle forks as long as you dont plan to reuse it.
But here's the thing about BJ and TRE connections..

Doesnt anyone get that point?
Good one. Hmmm ...so if she gets a crinkle on her skin and you take her to the body shop, you tell 'em no hammers and anvils.. use bondo instead?

Sledge as ANVIL, Eric. Another case of bigger is not better!
Large framing or ball peen, 32 oz is just about right. The guy in the video called that a hand sledge, I think it's a smith's hammer.

I do this at work everyday (see pic)and it works 99% of the time. only once i have had to use a pickle fork to get it out.
Those pullers are garbage for TRE but work great for pitman arms
