Carb vs. Injection ... Which gives better mileage on 5.7 V8?
#11
If you're driving 22K per year then the payoff for installing EFI drops significantly....
Say you get 14pmg, increasing just one mpg you'll save $357/year in fuel. Save 2mpg and it is $670/year, and if just three mpg on the highway you'd save 943/year.
Now you're talking about an immediate pay off... Considering that you'll increase around town mileage too, easier starting in the morning and the added benefit of good off road performance and you could really take advantage of a setup...

Just an FYI - Edebrock sells a special spring-loaded needle specifically for off-roading. Supposed to prevent flooding at extreme angles.
Of course, FI eliminates this altogether, but with a carb, you have unlimited tuning potential, instant throttle response, lots of power (when set up right), & simple repairs. I'll take ANY carb ANY day over FI - just my .02.
On that note, wife just fueled up the Blazer minutes ago - sent me a text saying 17 MPG on that tank - and that's carbed, HEI ignition, winter tires, and crappy MA ethanol-diluted fuel too.
Back to the needle ... it's the 2nd one down ... Edelbrock.com - Carburetors & Accessories - Service and Installation
