I'll make this short. The gas gauge on my 1983 GMC JIMMY reads 1/4 tank even after I've filled the tank. The gauge will go down as fuel is consumed, however, I don't know how accurate the reading is The tank was dropped in August of this year and a new sending unit was installed. Outside of the possibility of new sending unit being bad, what else could be causing this? Any help is much appreciated.

i had just about the same issue, must times it would read 1/4 tank some times after filling it would only read 1/4 then jump to full but 90% of the time it stayed in same spot. mine ended up being a bad ground wire mounted to the sending unit and corrosion on the power wire. Hope it helps if thats not it faulty gauge and or wiring issues els where.

Thanks for the tips Kanek5. Getting to those wires means dropping the tank again, but I don't see any other way around it.
