Default ignition won't engage starter

For years I have had to pull my tilt wheel all the way down while turning my ignition key in order for the key to engage the starter, as if something wasn't reaching far enough or connecting. Now it won't do anything no matter how hard I pull it down. Is it in the ignition switch itself or is there something getting worn out in the steering column or something else?

It is not the battery or starter, it has to do with the ignition switch. All accessories come on, I think something is worn out and not connecting anymore just related to reaching the starter.

Thanks for any place to start.

I have not had a GM column apart recently but other models have the actual switch lower on the column and a rod connects the switch to the key cylinder. Since the problem has been getting worse over time either the switch, key cylinder or rod have become worn and/or deformed.

Either time to rebuild the column and see what the worn part is or replace it completely.

Thank you for the response. I think I will yank the column out and just rebuild it. Does anyone know if remanufactured columns are available?
