Default leaking gas tank..affect performance?

I love my newly purchaced 1993 full size blazer...after driving for a couple of weeks and dealing with what I think is a EGR problem,: light surging/ light throttle stalling, I noticed when I filled the tank...(to the top!) I had a leak...my question is, would this cause the above mentioned problem? I have no pressure at the filler cap upon removal. my check engine light is NOT on...I will eventually get a new tank, but would rather fix the stumbling/stalling first. could this be the leaking tank causing fuel pressure problems?
thanks in advance!

If by 'fill it to the top' you mean until you can see the gas (or thereabout), then stop doing that. On cars with emission evaporative systems overfilling can cause the charcoal canister to become soaked with gas and unable to do its job of filtering vapors which can trigger a CEL. Is this what is causing your performance issue, I don't know, but it is a possibility and you can cause a fuel leak by overfilling. Try not filling more than a couple of clicks after the station gas pump cuts off and see if there is any change.
