Question Liftgate upper weatherstrip: pro help needed! K1500, not K5...

This question is actually concerning the bastard 1994 K1500 Blazer, not the K5, but since there's no section for the K1500 I figured I'd try here.

I may need to find a dealership guy who can demystify this silly, only quasi-mechanical problem:

I've replaced the rear lift- and tailgate weatherstrips and figured I'd do the upper liftgate one too just to finish the job. It seems like the thing (I bought one from LMC Truck) is installed in the proper position. But when I close the liftgate completely, the strip pulls off the center of the upper edge of the liftgate and sucks into the gap between the liftgate and body. It's then trapped there until I completely unclip the weatherstrip from the body and re-install the whole thing.

Seems like either (a) there's something a little dimensionally wrong about this replacement strip, or (b) I'm missing some subtle and mysterious install secret.

Anyone out there wrestle with these before and have any input?

Thanks!

Just as a thought....could it be that the new weatherstripping is sticky and its getting pulled up because of that? Try cleaning the new gasket and window surface with soap n water and then spray or wipe some wd-40 on the gasket just to see if that stops the problem. Can't hurt, right? If that doesn't do anything then maybe some weatherstripping adhesive will hold it down.
