Default lug nuts on a 77(?)

ok, my neighbor has a 77 i believe. I was looking at his stock rims and noticed that its a six lug. I found a set of rims that supposedly came off of a full size, but they are 5 lug...what gives. are all the full sizes 6 lug, or what. A nice gesture has turned into a hassle any help appreciated

2wd were 5 lug while 4wd 1/2 tons were 6 lug. The 3/4 & 1 ton trucks were 8 lug. Speaking of that vintage of a truck anyway.
