I am replacing the dash pad. Can you tell me the best way to remove the dash? I was thinking about getting the Chevrolet 1974 light duty truck service manual on ebay. I thought it might help me with all the things I need to do. Does anyone know if it worth look?

 

On the passenger side there are some screws along the bottom edge, they might be 9/32's... There could be one screw on the passenger end, open the door so see it, if there it will be pretty obvious.

On the driver side you need to remove the gauge bezel. You should be able to see the screws, nothing should be hidden. There is also a section below the steering column that you might have to remove too. Just keep unscrewing stuff, don't loose the screws! If you do don't worry you don't need all of them anyways.

The bezel will be loose but you will have a hard time getting it out from behind the steering wheel. A good trick is to set the parking brake and then move the gear selector down to 1st or 2nd gear, it gets that stalk out of the way.

If you have AC vents be sure to disconnect those too.

Once that is out of the way you should be able to lift up a little and give a few quick tugs on the dash pad. It is held in place on the windshield side by some clips. They should release with a little persuasion.

Get our the shop vac, this is a good time to do some Spring cleaning.
