Default Random engine failure while driving

So I was driving down the road in my 1986 k5 blazer with the 305 and all of a sudden the engine quit. So I pushed in the clutch and tried to start it.... No luck so I pulled over and had to get towed home. We checked the ECM and it has power coming out of it so I'm assuming it could be the entire distributor assembly or maybe just cap and rotor.. Amy ideas of why this happened or what else it may be? Engine turns over but won't fire

Usually these model chevy`s have problem`s with the ECM.When I was younger my father had an 1982 chevy silverado with the 305 in her.One night we where driving back to his house(on a cold a** central louisiana nite)all of sudden the engine died.He tried to start it, but she wouldn`t fire up.So he had to call his brother up to pull us back home.Next morning I changed out the ECM, it started right up.If you still have the original distributor? It may have failed. The distributors don`t last forever. If I where you.I would start by changing out the ECM.If you don`t have a P.o. Box address, look up the guys at "Summit Racing.com" Don`t buy the G.M. brand ECM.They are over priced plus they don`t last.Look at the( Accel,Mallory) brand ECM`s.These aren`t cheap, but they last alot longer than compared to the cheaply made G.M., brand. While your at it..Change out the cap and rotor if you`ve haven`t done it already. What about the spark plugs, spark plug wires? When`s the last time you`ve changed these? If you want a great spark plug, look @ the "Torque master" Sparkplugs @ Extreme spark.com.I`ve owned a set on my 81 chevy malibu for 11yrs. before I sold her.No worries about regapping these plugs. They are pricey..$11.00 a piece plus $9.00 flat fee shipping.Trust me on this one..These plugs are well worth the investment. In fact I have a set on my Blazer as we speak. P.S. The reason why I asked about if you have a p.o. box is because summit doesn`t ship to p.o.boxes

i had a 84 years ago that kept chewing up ignition modules, that little half moon looking thing under the distributor cap.about once every 3 months the truck would just randomly die while driving it, i kept a few in the glove box so i could change it on the side of the road, after likethe 4th time i finally noticed one of the coil wires was stripped and was arching off to ground causing the problem.
