Default Tilt wheel is loose.

My tilt wheel has been loose for quite a while. its got so much play that it jumps up and down when i go down a gravel road.

Ive been told it can be tightenedm but am unsure of how to do it. And if tightining it doesnt work how do i replace it? Can i replace just the shaft or do i need to replace the entire steering column?
Ive already got a wheel puller and a lock ring puller. do i need anyother stupid one time usespecial toolstools?

That should be it except a T25 torx bit and a E8 (I think) inverted torx socket.. and YES you can tighten them...there are 4 screws (E8) at the bottom of the upper section...

ugh sounds like a pain. i tried it once but i couldnt get past the ignition and turn signal. i gave up and put it back together. since ive got no clue how that stuff comes apart.

Im guessing i have to remove the shifter as well? im hoping to leave as much in place as possible i dont realy want to unhook the wires and pull the whole thing out of the truck. hopefully the plastics will come off without having to remove the shifter?

No you don't have to remove the shifter, but you do have to remove the turn signal switch, lock cylinder....lock plate etc....once you get everything out you take the tilt spring out and then remove the pivot pins..you will need a special tool for those as well...snap-on sells it for about $15.00......then like Chevylover said one at a time..remove each bolt..put some locktite on the threads and re-install each of them...you don't have to remove the column from the truck, and the plastic covers stay in place as well.
