Vibration between 25 and 35 mph
Hi all, currently running a M1009 with 33 inch mud terrains and a 700r4 box,my problem is a vibration starts to happen at about 25 mph, gets really bad,and then smooths out at speeds above 35mph.Passengers say it feels like the vibes are on their side,it happens at these speeds regardless of what gear I am in or what engine revs I am pulling.I had a similar problem on a brit car years ago and that turned out to be u joints.Any body agree with that or could it be something else?.
Hi,its there in both 2 and 4wd,but I think only in high ratio as I have not been up to 30 mph in low ratio, plus I have just found a very small amount of play in both uj's on the rear driveshaft.Does this help your diagnosis?. Cheers Barney.
Hi,There has always been a slight vibration since I bought the truck, but in the last two weeks it has been getting steadily worse, but only bad between 25&35 mph,in any gear, and today coming home from work I noticed a vibration below 25,foot off the gas and braking, the vibration seems to be worse on the passenger side, with the glove box shaking quite badly. What do you think it could be?.
Oh one other thing,I noticed a squeak developing today, the noise quickening with revolutions,if you know what I mean, not sure if it is wheels or shafts, but the weather as been bad here last two weeks and I have been driving her a lot in snow and salt.I must say,she is an awesome vehicle in the snow, better than my old discovery, did everything I asked of her, with plenty left!
No,I have'nt inspected all of the uj's,i'm off work this weekend so i'm planning to have a good look at everything then, yes, lug nuts all tight first thing i checked as it's the easiest, but, today coming home from work the bad vibration was'nt there, just a very small one now,and I have'nt done anything to it yet, except drive it in 2wd and not 4wd as the roads are pretty clear on my way to work now,and also the gearbox seemed to be shifting slicker for some reason, when the vibration was bad the tranny didnt feel as though it was shifting right, not going up quick enough and holding onto gears.I had more or less decided it was either uj's or maybe pinion shaft bearings/output shaft bearings but I am not so sure now.
Checked uj's today, both rear ones are worn, rear most one is the worst, well sloppy, what are the best uj's to buy,I would prefer the strongest ones, been on rockauto website, they have a large number for sale, but need to know which ones are best for my truck.
