I only can appreciate 4 wheel drive when needed. Other than that, if it can be lived without, so be it. I only have experience with my 207k mi. 2WD '97 4dr. Steers quite nice, do not know how a 4WD steers. 20 mpg city if I really work it, 17.5 mpg more realistic. I'm impressed.

A reliability comparison would be interesting between the 2? Less is more?

I have to say that even when I'm in 4 wheel drive mine steers great , I have drove all the way to work in 4 wheel drive several times , thats a 60 mile haul one way . And its pretty fast for a sport utility . When I'm doing the speed limit (55) I bearly have to touch the gas pedal and even then I find myself speeding .

So true and a hard lesson learned many moons ago. I purchased a 2wd f150 then moved to PA and couldn't make it up the mountains in the snow. Since then I have owned a 4x4 (the blazer to be exact).

...01 Jimmy 4x4. Even though I rarely if ever use the 4WD, I don't think a vehicle like this would 'feel right' without it...
