I wonder the samething. I do tear it up off road (Not tear up the truck, just 4 wheel like most everybody else here. I baby daily driving. I have about a 35 mile drive to school and work. I do the speed limit (I have never been pulled over, except when my tail lights freaked out and the cop just wanted to keep me from gettin' rearend). I do alot of regular maintence (Iknow I check my oil more than anybodyI know. Most of the time all fluids are checked every other day if not everyday depending on the driving I do.I doesn't seem that fair I know guys thathave the same truck I do (they don't belong here because to them their ride isjust a DD and don't care what happens). One guy I know haslike close to 200,000 miles on his98 Blazer4x42dr. and he runs the hell out of it most of the time he can be spotted doing 90 or better down the highway. I know he told me the last time he changed his oil was like last year every once in awhile when he remembers he'll put a bit in her to top it off. None of the other fluids have ever been changed (his mom and dad owned it previously and never did any maintence. I mean c'mon I have had alot wrong with my truck and thank god I was able to fix most of it myself or one of my friends has helped me out. I totally agree with mindless corpse it doesn't seem like with proper maintence these problems should keep occuring and at least for me every new problem gets more expensive to fix. Although I am probably by saying it going to screw myself but since I fixed the damn trans it has run like a top. No problems ( now watch this week something will blow up.lol.) Like I said before no matter what happens its paid off and I am going to start working on my project.

well had a trannie failure today...no reverse, no second, and no final gear....Great on top of the various things that have failed on this vehicle since i got it, this is the worse...I kind of expected it to fail for a couple of reasons..one is the mileage (167,000), the other is i thought i felt a shudder or two, and the shifting was not consistent. Wasn't ******* the vehicle, actually since i got it i have kind of babied it until i can get more familiar with it. I drive a bit fast on the interstate, but to maintain speed with the rest of traffic, usually around 75 mph. but that's it...no winding it out, no trying to burn tires, like i said, i been mostly easy on it.
so...what do you figure the avg. will be for a re-build? $1,000 to $1,500 with a warrenty, and i am new to this area (just moved here) so if any one knows of a reliable shop in the Daytona Beach Florida area, let me know and i will check them out!

MC, I'd recommend a remanufactured trans, not just a rebuild of your current trans. Most rebuild shops don't do enough of one transmission to get it right every time although the 4L60E is one of the most common GM transmissions. There is a TON of stuff to check that many places just skip. Something like a Raptor, Monster, or even a Jasper reman would be higher on my list than having a local shop rebuild your current trans. Also, you can get upgrade packages for a lot cheaper this way as well. If you find a shop willing to do the labor (if you don't want to) with a reman unit, that would be your best bet, IMO. But do your homework regardless of what you choose. There are many ways to go wrong in the rebuilding process. Ask your friends, family and coworkers for opinions on where to go.

Ok Mindless Corpse, I don't around there so I can't help you with findin' a shop so that part of the footworks up to you. I had this site bookmarked when my trans was acting up. Heres the link, its already on your transmission:

Its in Phoenix but it hasprices the first 4 transmissions listed are for a 2wd thenext four are for a4wd truck and the price isreally reasonable considering what I was quoted here where I live. I believe these are remans not rebuilt I to don't recommed rebuilds. I have been burned by rebuilds before. Now as far as the labor I think its called for like a 4-5 hour job don't quote me though and labor rates around here are generally from $67.00-76.00depending on the shop. I just posted the link so you could get an idea on the price. AChevy dealer will be outrageousIMO. Good Luck, hope you get it back on the road.

Also, I'll add that if you do go with a reman, they may try to force you into replacing your radiator. Tell them to either flush out the trans cooler in the radiator or completely bypass it with a B&M supercooler. Both should fulfill the requirements of the reman warranty.

Both sound like good solid advice, thank you much. Sounds like Re-man would be the way to go. And thanks 4 the link, it gives me at least something too compare too.
