Default Adjusting your Fuel/Air mix ratio via volt meter?

I found this article on thirdgen.org. They talk about running a piece of wire to the o2 sensor and reading the voltage and using it to see if they are running to rich or lean etc etc at wot.

Adjusting Your Fuel Mixture Via Your 02 Sensor and a Digital Volt Meter - ThirdGen.org

Any info on this? Would the same info apply for us? I thought it was a cool concept.
