Default Anyone do a spare tire mount delete???

Hey, just wondered if anyone has removed/deleted the swinging spare tire mount and what kind of a pain it was? I have a 99 pewter 2dr and want to take it off and the roof rack, it is 4wd but I am lowering it to make it easier to get in and I think it will look out of place on a lowered blazer. Thanks, Mike

i took mine off its easy just take all the screws out for the spare tire mount & the screws on the side where the hinge piece is. if you want it to look clean you gotta either bondo the holes & stuff and get it painted or something

Please don't Bondo or your Man-card will be revoked... that ****'s for show cars that don't get driven or weather beaten...

Go to a body shop, get the holes welded in, ground, smoothed, then blown in with the correct paint, might as well get them to do the same thing with your roof rack.

thanks guys, 97chevyblaze, are they just holes with nuts on the back side or are they threaded right into the body? I might just look for a rear gate from a 2dr without the tire mount so would be a few less holes to weld up.

We had a 99 w/ the tire rack which we took off, everything just threads into the body as far as I know... The tailgate swap is a good idea though.
