Default auto 4wd

Hello I Have a 2001 s-10 blazer w auto 4wd the 4 push button kind and was wondering if the front drive shaft is supposed to turn when in 2hi? All of the components of the 4wd system seem to be working properly just wondering if its because it is an auto 4wd. Seems to be dropping my gas mileage from a standard three button 4wd model. Any imput would be appreciated. Thank you

i have the same as you and from what i have learned the front DS does indeed turn all the time, somthing about the clutch packs in the transfer case, and mine does also turn all the time also.. FYI though, the fluid is a special Autotrac II fluid from GM, its blue in color and part # is 88900402
and costs about 7-8$ a quart..

no problem, on the 3 button style T/C's the front DS does not turn, and i would guess the gas mileage would be slightly better, but not like way different, before the larger tires i installed i was getting 19 mpg hiway, 16-17 city, but in 4wd close to 8-9mpg, real bad in 4wd

Mine gets around 16 to 18 at best. I know a friend who has one with regular 4x4 and he gets 21 to 23 all the time so was just wondering why. Thanks alot for the info!

i believe the shaft is turning all the time regardless of auto or non as it needs to keep speed with the transfercase for on the fly engagement, it just is not powered by the transfercase unless 4x4 is call for.
