bad crunching sound!! HELP!

Default bad crunching sound!! HELP!

ok so my 98 zr2 has just started to make a bad crunching sound in the driver side wheal well! any ideas of what it could be/? it only starts up when i take a left hand turn and when im backing up is when its really bad! any ideas?

Sounds like the CV has let go. Have you tried to watch the CV while you turn?

If you put it into 2HI and jack up the front of the truck with a jack under the lower control arm on the driver side, you should be able to turn the wheel by hand while watching/feeling the CV shaft. Try this with the wheels straight and then turned.

I think I had a similar issue with my 2002 blazer... I needed new upper and lower ball joints and bushings... They recomended I get basically a whole new front end to prevent this from happening again. There is a little play in my steering, but I can't afford darn near $1000 right now tho... Just got the ball joints replaced and no more noise...

Wow. My ball joints completely popped off at 75 mph, and I never got a warning at all. My guardian angel guided my Blazer (and me) to safety, but not without me almost suffering a friggin' heart attack.

Consider yourself very fortunate that you were warned ahead of time! Fix that problem!
