General Chat Chat about all things Blazer (and related vehicles). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.

If you can find a mimimal rust vehicle, go for it BUT beware...

My 95 S10 frame is starting to weaken from rust inside. One cab mount plate is rusted badly.

These 90s and up S line frames are more or less sheet metal stamped and welded up, not a heavy C or I beam like in the "real" trucks.

If the frame goes thats big problems, so check INSIDE the frame members also before putting a lot of time and money into a project.

"I'd love a full size Blazer but they have no airbags. I find airbags important so that is kind of a deal breaker."

A full size Blazer doesnt NEED airbags, itll demolish most vehicles it hits ( or hits it.) Theres more STEEL in the K5 frame than in most other vehicles in total.

Our 78 K5 was hit PS front by a Chevette or similar, utterly destroyed the car, the K5 had no sheet metal damage, slightly bent brake caliper mount and small X -member crack.

Airbags came into use when auto engineers started making vehicles out of stamped and welded beer cans. They have no frame. Trash

Oh, yeah. I'll be taking the cab off completely so I can inspect the frame before doing anything. I'm guessing drainage is an issue?

Hm. I'm more worried about the potential violent impact which could force my head onto the steering wheel, if, say, an F-150 crashes into me at higher speeds. That would be bad news.

I'm also looking for 4-door, if K5 Blazers have that...
