Default Built in code reader?

Hey all, OSS here;

Was wondering if our trucks have a built in code reader, similar to my old 97 Cadillac STS(r.i.p), where you could hold two buttons on the HVAC, and codes would be displayed. I know there isn't an LCD screen for that in our trucks, but perhaps an old style OBD1 flash type? Just got a CEL on lastnight after I ran out of fuel that day, so I'd like to trace it asap, I don't have a code reader, and in Canada, I can't borrow one from Napa or anything, thanks!

On an OBD II equipped vehicle, nothing I can think of unless you have OnStar and an active account. Maybe someone else has a trick I'm not aware of.

PLX Kiwi - Kiwi Wifi, Kiwi Bluetooth, Kiwi MPG, Kiwi Drive Green OBD 2 Devices Try this I am looking at buying one. I know it is not built in, and OnStar won't work on anything under 2005...they didn't make the upgrade kit for Blazers and Jimmys

As stated, most GM 96+ vehicles do not have any way of displaying OBD2 codes besides some Cadillac models.

If you wanted to go with a pod mounted gauge that can also read the trouble codes, I have used the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge before. Had one in my Bonneville, but sold it after I sold the car.
