Before the 1990s when fuel injection systems became standard in automobiles sold inside the United States, carburetors were the pieces of equipment that controlled the delivery of fuel and air to internal combustion engines. Carburetors are only used today in older motor vehicles such as the Chevy C10, as well as in motorcycles, racing cars, and certain boats and aircraft. You can buy a replacement carburetor for your Car in different websites.

Basically, carburetors are just narrow metal tubes with an adjustable throttle plate across one end. The tube narrows at a certain point, creating a vacuum. Within that part of the carburetor under vacuum pressure, a small hole sucks fuel into the system. The amount of fuel sucked into the system is influenced by the amount of air that enters the carburetor. Movements of the carburetor's throttle plate determine how much air enters the system.

My 87 is the first year for the TBI and at first i was very skeptical since I always had Holley's on Camaro and chevelle, but man I got to tell you FI is the way to go/ Holley makes agreat TBI system for the pre- Vortec motors. it is a littler more exspensive but man they run and you dont need to fiddle fart with anything. It comes with a basic computer and an electric fuel pump, if you do any off angle 4 wheeling this is the way to go. On the other hand the Holly truck carb is a nice good carb for a everyday vehicle. I dont think the 87 and later intake manifolds will bolt up correctly to an 86 and older engine. Its not a vortec but they do use the center bolt valve covers and that there are differences.

I guess I just prefer the low tech simplicity of a carb. Heck, I would rather have a good old fashioned points distributor than an electronic one!

Throw in some asbestos, and R-12 Freon, and you got a deal!

Nah I'm keeping the asbestos it keeps the telegraph wires from shorting out
