You need to squeeze the inner white plastic clip together, and then pull the black boot straight back and out. There are two openings on either side of the black boot where the white clip is visible. This is where you squeeze on the white clip with your fingers, and at the same time pull the line away from the connection.
I am able to get the connection on the line off of the charcoal canister. Is the connection on the purge valve by the engine the same type? Does it come off the same way? My first step to finding the cause of the P0446 code is going to be to blow air through that line and check for any blockage. If there is some then repair it by replacing line. Once done should I just have it smoked again or dig deeper? If it doesn't have any blockage what is the next step?

I will let Stovey help you with the connectors.
Blockage is common especially when a vehicle sits but is usually a dead vent solenoid or a blocked charcoal cannister and you have trouble filling the tank. If its not the line from the purge valve at the engine to the cannister then see if the cannister is good on the purge side.
The purge valve has a different connector, and it is not obvious how this connector is removed. But removal is very easy once you know how.
You will notice a white horseshoe shaped clip on one side of the connector. You may have to rotate the connector a little bit until it comes into view. Push downwards on the middle of the white clip, so that the clip moves into the connector. When the clip is fully depressed, pull the line straight back and off of the purge valve.
You might find it easier to push on the clip with a flathead screwdriver or a pick rather than your fingers.
Thank you again for getting back to me so quickly. I am including a couple of pictures of what I believe to be the purge valve by the engine. It is located on the pax side toward the back of the engine. Is this the purge valve where I remove the line at this end and then remove the line on the charcoal canister and blow air threw it checking for any blockage. The connection on the valve by the engine looks Ike it is just forced on...no clamps that I can see.
