Default Counsel shifting habit?

Just wondering anyone else get in the habit of manualy shifting with the counsel shift on their auto trans? Start it in first then when you want go to second and so on. After I got my exhaust redone a year and a half ago I was shifting like that just to play with the exhaust and just fell into the habit of doing it every time I drive. And from every stop. Just wondering if I'm the only one.

I only really use it for around town (Houghton, MI is built on a hillside and in the winter you need that control). But yes I use it; more for slowing down but I do sometimes use it so I start in second to prevent slip leaving a light or intersection.

I do it in my pickup truck to make the exhaust sound cooler when downshifting

What is "counsel shifting" and can it damage your transmission by doing so?

I don't know that that's entirely a smart thing to do, but boy would it sound nice if your truck is loud. In my experience, I've had a car that I did that with and eventually the transmission started slipping pretty bad. It's not a manual, don't drive it like one, I figured.
