iS THE NEW; SHORTER BRACKET REALLY REQUIRED? ITS JUST A BIT SHORTER IN LENGTH AND THE MFI DOES FIT FINE INTO THE OLD STYLE BRACKET. NEW BRACKET IS $17 + tax LOCALLY AND AFTER PAYING FOR THE MFI, SAVING A FEW BUCKS WOULD BE NICE.

THNX ALL!

DONT DRINK TO MUCH AND DRIVE! HAVE A GREAT 2018!

For my 1999, I used the bracket that came with my replacement AC Delco unit.

There is a seal around the core of the spider that fits into the hole in the top of the upper intake manifold plenum. Therefore I would guess it is important to use the correct bracket so that the height is correct to mate with the plenum.
