Default RE: Electric to Manual

In looking through the Owners manual for a '94, it does seem as though there was the option of having manual shift. I need to check my references when I get home to see if the transfer cases are the same, but if they are, then you should be able to find a floor shifted truck and use the linkage from there. This mostlikely will require cutting of your floor. You may want to compare the contours of your floor boards with that of the floor shift model... You'll basically need to have access to both trucks to compare.

And just to point one thing out, every 2 speed transfer case that I have ever worked on has a neutral position regardless of what buttons you have available inside.

And yes, to repair your truck, we really need to know what it is or is not doing...

Found the place that had the mod... ZR2USA's stroker01zr2 did the write up...

It's for the NP233 t-case, which I think is the 2 speed one without the auto... If this is the same one that's in the '94s, then that's probably why it can do the manual shift... or something, lol

edit:

re-read part of it... the NP233, is basically the updated version of the NP231 which is the one the '94 has, since it's got the manual shift version...

Also, apparently, there is no neutral on the NP233... according to the article, anyway...

Which is something I find very... odd... Even if it's not a button option, it just feels wrong to not have a neutral option somewhere...

Maybe the newer transfer cases have internal detents to hold the positioning. If that is the case, then that modification will work just fine. If not, then there is nothing to hold it in each mode and a wrong bump off or on paved roads could cause it to slip out of gear. After reading through that write-up it sounds like there is an internal detent on the newer transfer case in the write-up, but that doesn't mean that there is in the older models (even if they are the same model #).

True, but the NP231 should have the detents right from the get-go as it had the option for the manual shift... Unless it depended on something in the lever action to keep it in place...

I think it would be easier to just fix it after reading that. Plus I just don't like the idea of just having the shifter go straight back and forth.

The problem with my switch now is that when I try to engage 4-hi, nothing happens. The darn switch doesn't even light up. 4-lo always engages, lights up,and works perfectly. What is the issue here?

Maybe just the switch panel itself is bad...

I suppose you don't know anyone with a Blazer, do you?

Are you 100% sure the front wheels engage in 4lo?

Or is there just no indicator light when you hit 4hi?

I know 99% of the time I've hit my 4x4, I haven't heard it engage...

Does the 2hi light come back on a little bit after you hit the 4hi button?

With the older system, if 4lo engages, then the encoder motor is working. Still don't know if the front axle has engaged, but the transfer case is doing what it is supposed to do. As such, I would think this is a switch problem.
