I have a 1995 Blazer the AC blows out hot air and the clutch on the compressor does not engage. It my understanding that the system needs pressure to engage the clutch. So I am thinking that the system has a leak Or compressor and or clutch went bad. Is it possible for Freon to just dissipate or go bad over the years? I am thinking about recharging it myself if it is possible to do with just the Freon cans you get from the auto stores. Is it worth it for me to try to put Freon in truck? I search this forum for solutions but none seemed to answer my questions. But I am going to continue to research.

You can go ahead and recharge it. When you get the can, and put it on your truck, check to see where it is at. If the pressure is normal and the clutch isn't engaging, the problem could be the clutch then. I'm not to knowledgable on the A/C systems, but I do know that most used vehicles I have gotten that the A/C didn't work, a simple recharge was needed. Give it a try, and just look at the directions on the can. It is pretty easy to follow. Good luck with the A/C.
Also, there is a dye that the auto stores sell that can let you know if you are leaking. It is fluorescent and if there is a leak, youll spot it.

Sounds like the clutch or the compressor is going out if it is not engaging. Freon does not go bad, no expiration date. If you are low on Freon then you have a leak somewhere in the system. As stated above any auto store has a die that reacts with a black light so you can see where it is leaking.
Before you add Freon check to make sure it already is full because you can overcharge the system. Also, make sure the compressor wiring is plugged in and check for blown fuses.
Could be something as simple as a bad gasket that needs replaced that is on the a/c return line that connects to the compressor.
