Default GPS disk mount: how to?

I've had my GPS for a while and dislike attaching it to the windows and windshield. I want to attach it to my dash board (top) but the plastic mounting disk that came with it won't stick to my dash. The suction cup on the GPS won't stick to the dash because of the thin rivets.

Is there something I need to do to get the GPS disk to stick to the dash?

Mine was just a flat disk and double sided taped it. Makes for fun times when you sell the truck and try to take it off

I ruined the double sided tape by trying to attach it to my dashboard while it was dusty. After digging, I actually found another disk to use.

The trick to the double sided tape when you go to remove it, is park the truck so the sun's hitting the dash, let that cook for a bit and then yank it off... If you put it on a removable piece of your dash (ie. the bezel) pull the bezel off, and use something like Goo gone, or DW-40 with a rag and start rubbing like a bastard.
